And the Winner is: Us! Our Liebster Award Blog Post

This post has been a long, long time coming, but we are super excited to have been nominated for the Liebster Award by Michwanderlust. A massive thank you to her!  If you get a chance, please head over to check out her blog at, there are some great posts to read.

Michelle, the author behind Michwanderlust is from Singapore and is an avid scuba diver.  We love seeing her photos and reading stories about her latest diving trip.  From Thailand to Fiji her travels have taken her all over the world and we have enjoyed reading about them.  She is also on Instagram @michhwanderlust and Twitter @michwanderust

What’s The liebster award All About?

The Liebster Award is an online award for relatively new bloggers.  The “winners” of the award are “nominated” by their fellow bloggers; it’s a great way for blogosphere newbies to get some exposure and recognition for their hard work.  The word Liebster is German for ‘Dearest’ and is an indication that the blog is held in high regard by its nominator.

The liebster “Rules”

The Award has been running since 2011 and the rules have evolved with time.  In summary it works as follows:-

  1. When nominated, write a blog post that answers the 11 questions posed to you (while thanking and linking back to your nominator).
  2. Nominate 5 to 11 other blogs that you love and think deserve some recognition.
  3. Pose your own set of 11 questions.

The Questions We Were Asked:-

What Inspired You to Start Blogging?

We initially started the blog as a way for us to keep our friends and family updated on our travels. The term ‘Love C and D’ represents a postcard sign off. However, after only being away for a short amount of time, we both realised that we really enjoyed doing it. We decided that we wanted to share our stories, experiences and tips with others. (Not just our family and friends).

How Much Time a Week Do You Typically Spend Blogging?

This varies dramatically!  We are still very “green” when it comes to blogging and haven’t yet established a daily/weekly routine to schedule in blogging time. When we travelled through South America, the inconsistent WiFi also had an impact on how much time we could spend.  However, on a good week, combined we spend anywhere between around 2-6 hours writing blogs and editing the photos etc. On top of that there’s the time we spend on social media networking with other bloggers etc.

What Has Been The Best Part of Your Blogging Journey So Far?

The best part of our blogging journey so far has been linking up with other travel-bloggers.  It has been brilliant to connect and communicate with so many others that are doing the same thing us as.  Learning from their experiences and sharing our own with them has been very rewarding for us.

Conversely,  What Has Been Your Least Favourite Part?

Our least favourite part so far, involves looking at the blog statistics.   It’s that demoralising feeling when you look at the ‘stats’ for the blog, and the post you spent hours and hours perfecting has only been read by… your mum (Thanks mum!). However, the numbers are steadily growing so it’s not all doom and gloom.

Do You Think Blogging Has Had a Positive Impact on The Way You Travel?

Yes definitely.  In order to write a travel blog you have to actually travel right? So blogging has encouraged us to try more off the beaten track things and generally to get out more.  We also spend quite a bit of time reading other peoples blog on places we are going, to search for hidden gems based on experience.

What Is At The Top of Your Bucket List?

Top of the list for both of us right now is scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef. It may sound a bit cliché and definitely not off the beaten track but its something we have both wanted to do for a long time.  We are also conscious that it might  not always be there, so now is the time.

What Is Your Favourite Place In The World, and Why?

This may sound strange being part of a Liebster - Puzzle“travel” blog post. But our favourite place in the world is sat on our sofa together, with our cat puzzle, eating a takeaway and drinking a beer. Not forgetting the obligatory American show on the TV (something like Suits or a Marvel series).  It wouldn’t matter where that sofa was located especially, but in Thailand somewhere would be pretty awesome.

Is There Any Place You Want to Revisit?

C: I absolutely adored Bolivia and would love to go back! It was so different from anything we’d experienced before and super cheap. I especially liked Sucre.

Liebster - Sucre

D: For me, there are three places I really want to revisit.  Rio de Janeiro, preferably whilst Carnival is on although I would gladly go back regardless. Cusco in Peru to use as a base for exploring the Sacred Valley and Las Vegas…well just because. Vegas baby!

What Is Your Favourite Travel Memory/Experience?

C: My favourite travel experience from Liebster - Niagara Fallsthis trip was seeing Niagara falls and getting soaking wet whilst riding the Hornblower!  Even better, I got to do it with my mum who travelled over especially to meet me.  Longer memory would be holiday in in Vietnam as a child (whilst we lived in Thailand). It rained soo much! I love the rain anyway but it also meant we got to watch Cartoon Network which was a rarity.

D: From this trip it has to be completing my PADI Open Water Diver course.  I only did this recently in Phuket with Namloo Divers and I absolutely loved it! Older memories, weirdly enough would be the family holiday also in Phuket; it was the most luxurious holiday we’d ever been on and there was an elephant that lived at the hotel.

What Is One Unlikely Travel Essential of Yours?

Whether it would be considered an “essential” is debatable, but it is most definitely “unlikely”.  Suzie was given to us by D’s brother as a mascot and he challenged us to get photos of her in as many different places.  So she comes everywhere with us, although she does get forgotten and misses out on photo opportunities quite a lot (sorry!).  Other than that, we would say stock cubes as they can help make quick and easy dinners in hostels.

Liebster - Suzie

What Is Your Next Adventure?

This has changed so many times since we first started writing this post. We recently arrived in Sydney to celebrate Christmas and New Year.  Having purchased a car we will be embarking on an east coast road trip – we are super excited!!

And The liebster Nominees Are

Bonvoyagewithbri – Briana is a college student from the States who loves to travel.  We have loved reading her posts which at present are focused on the US.. Whether its encouraging us to ‘Skip the Strip’ in Las Vegas or debunking Pinterest travel myths (we were gutted about some of them), .

Thetravelographerandme – Jackie is the “and me” of this duo.  In her words “He does photos, I do words” .  Rod Gotfried akaThe Travelographer, may be a well known presence on social media  popular for his photography, but not many know of the word-smith whose blog we have fallen in love with.  Spinning stories of their travels, Jackie is able to bring locations to life and really make you feel the atmosphere of a place.  From Morocco’s hidden gem to Snow Monkeys in Japan – you should definitely click on over and have a read.

TheWholeWorldOrNothing –  James and Sarah are a newly married couple in their 30’s, hailing from Ol’ Blighty.  In 2015 they dropped everything to travel, focusing on South America and Asia.  Their blog, TheWholeWorldOrNothing is  a way for them to share their stories, some awesome photos and travel tips.  We love their honest style of writing and have enjoyed reading posts about some of the places we visited too, like Brazil and Peru.

MapTrotting – Charlie and Kristina, two travel lovers who want to inspire you to ‘work less and travel more’.  They travel with the philosophydon’t rush, you only visit most places once so enjoy them.  With blogs posts on multiple destinations, travel resources and travel lifestyle, they’ve got everything you need to get planing that trip (including a new e-book to help you do it!)

Backpackermac – Amy, the blogger behind Backpackermac is a young , British female traveller. From her posts on looking for farm work in the Queensland Australia, to photographing Angkor Wat in Cambodia we love the alert/update style of her posts.  There is also some really helpful information about TEFL courses and working holiday visas, so go check it out.
