We have had an amazing week in Rio for so many reasons. I have taken hundreds of photos, but these are five of my favourite photos of Rio.
These trees are everywhere, and they are just so beautiful. They also provided shade for us on our first day, when we’d forgotten to put on sun cream. We ended up walking around for ages with no water either. Doh!
We reached Christ the Redeemer in an unconventional way – by hiking up Corcovado! It was awesome fun, especially as we did it with a group of friends. It definitely made reaching the top more satisfying. Since originally writing this post, there is now a post about the hike here. Go check it out!
At the end our of our Morro Dois Irmaos (Two Brothers Hill) hike, we walked through Vidigal. Vidigal is one of the many slums, or favelas that spral across the city. This has been pacified by a specialist police unit so it was safe for us to stroll through. (Apparently David Beckham has house here!) The street art there is stunningly beautiful and there is so much of it.
I feel like I was up a mountain more often than on the beach! Rio has several amazing vantage points to look over the city. Just look at that view with the Christ statue. This is one of D’s favourite photos of Rio.
The famous and super colourful Lapa Stairs were a highlight of ours. There are so many tiles! This is one of about a hundred photos we took, just of the stairs because there was so much to look at. We also spent ages trying to find a tile with the England flag on – eventually we found it.
